Alumni Hockey Game Jerseys: What to Order for a Reunion Game

By the Puck Drop Prints team. Updated October 2026.

Alumni hockey game jerseys start at $55 each on a six-jersey minimum, with names, numbers and worldwide shipping included. Because an alumni game is usually one group split into two sides, the best value is often a Reversible kit at $134 per player (jersey, socks and pant shell). Sublimated jerseys at $65 land in 4 to 5 weeks. For a Thanksgiving-weekend game, that means confirming your roster by mid-October.

Here is the part nobody warns you about: the jerseys are the easy half.

The hard half is that you are ordering for eighteen guys who last shared a dressing room in 2009, who now live in five states, who are all one size bigger than they think they are, and three of whom will confirm the Tuesday before the game.

There is no captain. There is no team email. There is a group chat somebody made in 2019 and nobody has opened since.

This is a guide to running that order without losing your mind.

Alumni games cluster around Thanksgiving weekend, the week between Christmas and New Year's, and homecoming. All three sell out the rink and none of them move for your order.

Why are alumni game jerseys harder to order than regular team jerseys?

Alumni jerseys are harder because the team no longer exists as an organization. A beer league captain has a roster, a league fee spreadsheet and eighteen guys who see each other weekly. An alumni organizer has a list of names, some outdated phone numbers and a date on a calendar. The jersey is identical; the logistics are not.

Three things break specifically on reunion orders.

Sizes have moved. The guy who wore a Medium in his last year of juniors is not wearing a Medium at the alumni game. Fifteen years and two kids happen to everyone. Never reuse an old size list. Collect fresh sizes, every single time, from every single player.

Numbers collide. On a normal team, numbers are assigned once and everybody knows them. On an alumni roster spanning eight graduating classes, four guys wore 12 and every one of them thinks it is theirs.

The roster is soft until it isn't. Regular teams know who is playing. Alumni teams find out when guys land. That gap between "probably in" and "flying in Friday" is where most orders go sideways.

None of these are jersey problems. They are collection problems, and they are why the order takes longer than the production does.

When should you order alumni game jerseys?

Order six to eight weeks before the game. Sublimated, roller and reversible jerseys run 4-5 weeks; tackle twill runs 5-6 weeks. Then add roughly two weeks on top for chasing an alumni roster, because you will need them. That puts a Thanksgiving-weekend game on an early-to-mid October start.

Here is the math on the three dates alumni games actually land on.

Game window Start chasing the roster Order confirmed by
Thanksgiving weekend (Nov 26-29, 2026) Early October Around Oct 22
Christmas break (Dec 26-30, 2026) Early November Around Nov 21
Homecoming / fall reunion weekend Eight weeks out Six weeks out

Want the full uniform? Uni Kits are priced per player at 6+ players: Sublimated kit $100 (reg $120), Tackle Twill kit $134 (reg $154), Reversible kit $134 (reg $154), and the Roller kit (jersey + roller pants) $100. Pant shells are $35 and socks $20 on their own. See the pricing page, or start building yours in the jersey customizer.

Tackle twill needs an extra week at every one of those dates. If you are inside six weeks and your heart is set on twill, order sublimated instead and put the twill order in for next year's game.

More detail on where the weeks go lives in our breakdown of how long custom hockey jerseys take to make.

Which jersey type should an alumni team buy?

Most alumni teams should buy sublimated at $65 each. It is 220 GSM, has double-layered shoulders and elbows, prints any logo and any gradient at no extra cost, and arrives in 4-5 weeks. Tackle twill at $99 is the upgrade worth paying for when the sweater is going in a frame afterward.

Sublimation is a printing process that dyes the design directly into the fabric, so the graphics never crack or peel. Tackle twill is stitched fabric lettering and crests sewn onto the jersey, which is how pro sweaters are built.

Jersey type Price each Fabric weight Turnaround Best for
Roller $55 110 GSM 4-5 weeks Big rosters on a tight budget
Sublimated $65 220 GSM 4-5 weeks The default for alumni games
Reversible $99 160 GSM 4-5 weeks One roster, two colors, no second order
Tackle twill (Pro) $99 210 GSM 5-6 weeks Stitched crest, framed on a wall after

Reversible deserves a specific mention here, because alumni games are almost always played as one group split into two teams. A single reversible order at $99 covers both sides. Two separate sublimated orders at $65 cover the same thing for $130 a player. Reversible wins that math.

Names and numbers are included on every jersey type, at every price point. There is no per-letter charge to get a guy his old number back.

What does a 16-player alumni order cost?

Sixteen alumni split into two sides cost $2,144 in Reversible kits, which is $134 per player for a two-color jersey, matching socks and a pant shell. Reversible jerseys alone come to $1,584. If everyone wears one color and the other side wears pinnies, Sublimated kits at $100 per player bring the total to $1,600.

Alumni game budget
16 players, one roster split into two sides
Option Team total Per player
16 Reversible kits (jersey, socks, pant shell) at $134 $2,144 $134
16 reversible jerseys only at $99 $1,584 $99
Two sublimated jersey sets, 32 jerseys at $65 $2,080 $130
16 Sublimated kits in one color at $100 $1,600 $100
Kit prices are per player on a team order of 6 or more. Names, numbers, logo design and worldwide shipping are included on every row.

One extra matters more for alumni groups than for anyone else: every team order comes with a free swag store carrying merchandise in your team's logo. If the game has a crowd of families, classmates and former teammates in the stands, that store is how the alumni association funds the ice time for next year's game.

One more number worth knowing before you order: late additions cost $85 each as a one-or-two-piece reorder, versus $65 in the original run. Three or more late guys drop back to $65. On an alumni roster, budget for two stragglers and you will usually be right.

How do you get everyone's old number right?

Collect numbers the same way you collect sizes: in writing, from each player, with a deadline. Ask for a first choice and a backup, because on a roster spanning multiple graduating classes you will get collisions. Sort ties by seniority, or by who is buying the beers. Both are defensible.

The old number is the entire emotional payload of an alumni sweater. A guy will forget the score by Monday. He will not forget that you put 27 on his back when he wore 17.

Ask each player for four things and nothing else: legal name for the nameplate, jersey number first choice, number backup, and current size. Do not ask for the size he used to wear. Do not accept "same as last time." Send the size charts with the request and make everybody read them, because torso width and length are what actually matter over pads, not the letter on the tag.

Our guide to collecting jersey sizes, names and numbers from a team walks through the whole process, including what to do about the three guys who never reply. Puck Drop Prints also sends a Team Order Info spreadsheet after the design stage, which becomes the single source of truth for the whole roster. Use it. Do not run a parallel list in the group chat.

Should you recreate the old jersey or design a new one?

Recreate the old one. An alumni game is a nostalgia event, and the sweater is the nostalgia. A faithful throwback of the jersey those guys actually wore beats a modern redesign every time, and it photographs better in the stands.

Retro-styled custom hockey jersey design in vintage team colors

Custom logo design is free with a team order, and the team keeps the artwork files for future reunion games.

Sublimation is what makes an honest throwback possible. The 1994 jersey probably had a colour-blocked yoke, a striped sleeve and a shoulder patch nobody would price out today. Printed into the fabric, none of that costs extra. Stitched, all of it does.

Two practical notes on recreating an old sweater.

Send the worst photo you have. A blurry team picture from 1998 is more useful than a description. Somebody in the group chat has one. Design works from what it can see.

Change one thing on purpose. Add the reunion year to a sleeve or a hem. It dates the sweater as an alumni jersey rather than a replica, and it gives the guys who could not make it a reason to order one next time.

Logo design is free with a team order and the artwork stays with the team, so the second reunion game costs less work than the first. Walk through the sequence on how it works.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order for alumni hockey game jerseys?

The minimum order is six jerseys, and it applies to all four jersey types at Puck Drop Prints: roller, sublimated, reversible and tackle twill. Alumni rosters almost always clear that easily. One-off single jerseys are not available, though a team that has already placed an order can reorder individual pieces later.

How far in advance should an alumni team order jerseys?

Order six to eight weeks before the game. Roller, sublimated and reversible jerseys take 4-5 weeks; tackle twill takes 5-6 weeks. Alumni rosters need roughly two extra weeks on top of that to collect sizes and numbers from players who no longer see each other. For a Thanksgiving-weekend game, start in early October.

Can we add players after the alumni jersey order is placed?

Yes. Once a team order has been placed, individual reorders are available. One or two additional sublimated jerseys cost $85 each, and three or more drop back to the $65 team price. Reorders run on the same 4-5 week production window, so a player added two weeks before the game will not have a jersey in time.

How much do alumni hockey game jerseys cost per player?

A Reversible kit (two-color jersey, socks and pant shell) is $134 per player on a team order of six or more, so a 16-player alumni game costs $2,144. Jerseys alone run $55 roller, $65 sublimated and $99 reversible or tackle twill, and a Sublimated kit is $100 per player. Names, numbers, custom logo design and worldwide shipping are included at every price point.

Do alumni jerseys include names and numbers?

Yes. Custom names and numbers are included on every jersey type at Puck Drop Prints, with no per-letter or per-digit charge. This matters on alumni orders, where the whole point is putting each player back in the number he actually wore. Submit a first-choice and backup number for each player to resolve duplicates across graduating classes.

Can we recreate a jersey design from decades ago?

Yes. Sublimated printing dyes the design into the fabric, so colour-blocked yokes, sleeve striping and shoulder patches cost nothing extra to reproduce. Send whatever reference photo exists, however blurry. Custom logo design is free with a team order and the team keeps the artwork files, so the next reunion game reuses the same design.

Get the reunion roster back in the sweater

The game will take care of itself. Somebody will pull a hamstring in warmups, somebody will score on his own net, and every single guy will claim he was faster in juniors.

The jerseys are the part you control. Start six to eight weeks out, collect sizes fresh, sort the number collisions early, and send whatever old photo you can dig up.

Start Your Order and we will take it from there.
