How Long Do Custom Hockey Jerseys Take to Make?

Custom hockey jerseys take 4–5 weeks from approved design to your front door, and 5–6 weeks for tackle twill. That covers a first design draft in about 5 business days, then 3–4 weeks of printing, cutting, sewing and shipping. Order six weeks before your first game and you are safe.

Every custom jersey site on the internet answers this question with “contact us for a timeline.” We are going to answer it with a calendar.

Because the real problem is not the 4–5 weeks. The real problem is the captain who reads “4–5 weeks,” does the math, decides he has plenty of time, and then spends three of those weeks trying to get Dave to text back his jersey size.

What does the 4–5 week turnaround actually include?

The 4–5 weeks covers two phases: roughly one week of design, then 3–4 weeks of production and shipping. The clock on the second phase does not start when you submit an inquiry. It starts the moment you approve the final proof and the payment clears.

Here is the whole thing, start to finish.

Stage How long Who is holding the puck
Inquiry and kickoff email 1–2 business days Us
First design draft About 5 business days Us
Logo draft, if you need one 3–5 business days, runs alongside Us
Revisions and roster collection However long your group chat takes You
Production and delivery 3–4 weeks Us

A proof is the final image of your jersey that you sign off on before anything gets printed. Nothing goes to the factory until you approve it.

Production and delivery take 3–4 weeks once the proof is approved and payment clears.

Notice which row has no number on it. Design and production are predictable. Eighteen adults agreeing on a colour scheme is not.

How long does each type of hockey jersey take?

Roller, sublimated and reversible jerseys all take 4–5 weeks. Tackle twill takes 5–6 weeks, because the crest, numbers and nameplate are cut from fabric and stitched on by a human being instead of printed. That extra week is sewing time, not queue time.

Jersey type Turnaround Price each Fabric weight
Roller 4–5 weeks $55 110 GSM
Sublimated 4–5 weeks $65 220 GSM
Reversible 4–5 weeks $99 160 GSM
Tackle twill (Pro) 5–6 weeks $99 210 GSM

Team order of six or more. Design, names, numbers and worldwide shipping are included in every price above. Full breakdown on the custom hockey jersey pricing page, or read what custom hockey jerseys actually cost.

GSM means grams per square metre — the weight of the fabric. Higher GSM is a heavier, more durable sweater. Sublimation is a printing process that turns the dye into a gas so it bonds into the fibres instead of sitting on top of them, which is why a sublimated design cannot crack or peel.

If you want the pro look with the stitched-on crest, budget the extra week. Do not order tackle twill four weeks out and hope.

When does your team need to order?

Count back six weeks from your first game, not four. Six weeks gives you a full week of buffer for revisions, a slow roster, and the one guy who changes his number after the proof is approved. Here is the math for a standard 4–5 week build.

Your first game Start the inquiry by Approve the proof by
Mid-September (fall session) Early August Mid-August
New Year’s tournament Mid-November Late November
Mid-April (spring session) Early March Mid-March
Summer league, late June Mid-May Late May

Add one more week to every row if you are ordering tackle twill.

Most rinks run two big sessions a year, one starting in September and one in April, which means the whole industry gets busy at the same time twice a year. August and March are the crowded months. If you can order in the quiet stretch — May, June, or November — you will land at the fast end of the window rather than the slow one.

What actually makes a jersey order run late?

In our experience it is almost never production. Orders slip for four reasons, and three of them live on the team’s side of the email thread.

  1. The roster. Sizes, names and numbers from every player. This is the single biggest delay on a custom jersey order, every time.
  2. Revision loops. One round of changes is normal. Six rounds because the team keeps re-voting on the shoulder stripe is not, and each loop costs days.
  3. Payment. Production does not start until payment clears. If eleven guys are Venmoing the captain, start collecting before the proof is approved, not after.
  4. Peak season. August and March queues are longer than May queues. Same process, more orders ahead of yours.

Fix the roster problem first and you have fixed most of it. Send one spreadsheet, give a hard deadline, and tell the boys that anyone who misses it gets whatever number is left. Works every time.

Can you get custom hockey jerseys faster than four weeks?

Sometimes, but do not plan on it. Orders have landed in as little as two weeks when the queue was quiet and the team had its roster ready on day one. That is a best case, not a promise, and it depends entirely on where you land in the production queue.

Three things genuinely speed you up, and none of them cost extra:

  • Have the roster before you inquire. Names, numbers and sizes collected up front removes the longest delay in the process.
  • Start from a pre-designed jersey. Picking a pre-designed hockey jersey at $65 and swapping in your colours and team name skips most of the design phase.
  • Nominate one decision maker. One person approves the proof. Not a committee, not a group chat poll.

What does not speed you up: paying more. There is no rush fee to buy your way past the queue, which is also why nobody ahead of you can pay to jump in front of your order.

Does ordering socks or pant shells add time?

No. Matching custom socks are $20 a pair with a team order and are produced alongside the jerseys, so they ship in the same 4–5 week window and in the same box. Adding socks to an existing order costs you nothing in time as long as you add them before the proof is approved.

Adding anything after approval is a different story: that becomes a reorder, which runs $85 for one or two extra sublimated jerseys and drops back to the standard $65 at three or more. The reorder starts its own 4–5 week clock. Decide on socks early.

Frequently asked questions

How long do custom hockey jerseys take to make?

Custom hockey jerseys from Puck Drop Prints take 4–5 weeks for roller, sublimated and reversible styles, and 5–6 weeks for tackle twill. That includes about 5 business days for the first design draft and 3–4 weeks of production and shipping after the final proof is approved and payment clears.

When does the production clock actually start?

Production starts when the final proof is approved and payment has been processed, not when the first inquiry is submitted. Everything before that point — design drafts, revisions, collecting sizes and numbers from the roster — happens on the team’s schedule and is the most common reason an order arrives later than expected.

How far in advance should a team order jerseys?

Six weeks before the first game for sublimated, roller or reversible jerseys, and seven weeks for tackle twill. The build itself takes 4–5 weeks, so the extra week absorbs design revisions and a slow roster. Teams playing a September session should start in early August; spring session teams should start in early March.

Can custom hockey jerseys be made faster than four weeks?

Occasionally. Orders have arrived in as little as two weeks when the production queue was quiet and the team supplied its full roster immediately. There is no paid rush option. The fastest reliable route is submitting complete sizes, names and numbers up front and starting from a pre-designed jersey instead of a design from scratch.

Does designing a logo add time to the order?

Not much. A first logo draft takes 3–5 business days and is designed alongside the jersey, so it rarely extends the overall timeline. Logo design is free with a team order and the team keeps the artwork for future orders, which means the second order is faster than the first.

How long do reorders take mid-season?

Reorders run on the same 4–5 week timeline as an original order, because the jerseys are produced from scratch rather than pulled off a shelf. One or two extra sublimated jerseys cost $85 each; three or more drop back to the standard $65. The artwork is already on file, so there is no design phase.

Get your team’s jerseys ordered in time

The timeline is 4–5 weeks. The part you control is everything before the proof gets approved, and that is where seasons get missed. Get the roster in a spreadsheet, pick one person to sign off, and start now rather than three weeks from now.

Tell us your season start date and we will tell you straight whether it is doable. Start your team order, or read exactly how the ordering process works before you commit. Once they arrive, here is how to take care of your custom hockey jersey so it survives the season.
