Which is a lower bar than most teams assume, and it is the reason half of you have been putting this off since last spring. You do not need the whole bench to commit before you can order. You need six guys who will actually send you their sizes, and if you cannot find six, the problem is not the minimum order.
Nobody is untangling that before warmup. Better news: the order minimum is 6 jerseys, not the dozen most shops demand.
Why is there a minimum order for custom hockey jerseys?
The minimum exists because custom jerseys are printed and cut to order, not pulled off a shelf. Setting up artwork, colour-matching a design and running a print job costs the same whether the run is 1 jersey or 30. Six is the point where that setup cost spreads thin enough to keep a jersey at $65 instead of $200.
A team order is a single production run of 6 or more jerseys built from one approved design. Everything downstream of that, the free logo design, the free shipping, the included names and numbers, is priced on the assumption that the run is shared across a group.
That is also why the number is 6 and not 12. Plenty of shops in this category set their floor at a dozen or more because it makes their scheduling easier. Six is deliberately low enough that a rec team, a bachelor party squad or a group of coworkers who play Thursdays at 10:40pm can actually clear it.

Can you order just one custom hockey jersey?
Not as a first order. Puck Drop Prints does not offer one-off custom jerseys to new customers. But once a team order has been placed, you can reorder a single jersey any time, a reorder of 1 to 2 pieces is $85 for roller or sublimated, and $99 for reversible or tackle twill.
This is the part most people get wrong. The 6-jersey minimum is a first-order rule, not a permanent one. Your design lives on after the initial run, so the team that ordered eight jerseys in September can add a single jersey in January for the guy who showed up in a borrowed practice sweater and never left.
Reorders of 3 or more pieces drop back to the original team price: $55 roller, $65 sublimated, $99 reversible, $99 twill. So if you know two more players are coming, waiting until you have three saves you $60 on a sublimated set.
A reorder is any additional jersey produced from a design that has already been through a team order.

Notice the per-player column does not move. There is no bulk discount waiting at 20 jerseys, which means there is no reason to pad the order with guys who are not sure they are playing. Order for the six who are certain, and reorder later.

Is the minimum the same for every jersey type?
Yes. All four jersey types carry the same 6-jersey minimum. What changes between them is price, fabric weight and turnaround, not the quantity you need to get started. Tackle twill takes 5 to 6 weeks because the crests are stitched and embroidered; the other three run 4 to 5 weeks.

GSM is grams per square metre, the weight of the fabric. Higher GSM means a heavier, more durable jersey.

Do you get anything extra on a team order?
Yes. Every team order comes with a free swag store, your own storefront selling merchandise branded with your team's logo. It comes with any team order, so six jerseys is enough; there is no second threshold to hit.
A swag store is a dedicated online shop where your players, their families and your league can buy team-branded gear directly.
So the only number that matters is 6: the minimum to place a team order, and the point where the store comes with it.
How do you actually hit the minimum?
Getting to 6 is a roster problem, not an ordering problem. Collect names, numbers and sizes from six committed players before you start the design, because production does not begin until the Team Order Info spreadsheet comes back approved. Every day that spreadsheet sits in someone's inbox is a day added to your 4 to 5 week turnaround.
The order runs like this: submit an inquiry, get an email back, approve the design, fill in the spreadsheet, approve the final proof, then 3 to 4 weeks of production. Orders have arrived in as little as 2 weeks, but plan on the full window.

One thing worth saying plainly: custom logo design is free with a team order, and your team keeps the artwork for future orders. So the six-jersey floor buys you a logo as well as sweaters, which is not nothing when your current crest is a clip-art moose someone's brother-in-law found in 2019.
